Tracking Operators work with data generated by MLB’s Baseball Tracking System, a ball and player tracking technology that produces valuable data to MLB Clubs and content that enhances television broadcasts, stadium display and the MLB app. The ideal candidate for this part-time job is reliable and diligent.
Responsibilities include:
Arrive at the ballpark 90 minutes prior to the scheduled start
Pre-game tasks include connecting laptop and verifying game-specific information
Confirm the application is receiving Tracking data
In-game tasks include monitoring and verifying Tracking data for accuracy and totality
Manually classify all players on the field
Perform post-play editing to ensure complete and accurate data
Work closely with MLB data operations personnel to troubleshoot system issues and ensure accuracy of data
Provide detailed post-game reporting and troubleshooting recaps
Qualifications include:
Demonstrable knowledge of baseball and its rules
Professionalism: ability to focus and perform time sensitive tasks without onsite supervision
Strong computer proficiency (Windows OS and Windows-based software) and the ability to quickly learn and operate new applications
Regular availability to work games in-person on weekdays, nights, and weekends
Ability to maintain proper decorum and respect in an MLB press box
Excellent attention to detail
Strong communication skills
New Tracking Operators will undergo a correspondence and a training program before working any games solo.
