POSITION: Welder/Fabricator DEPARTMENT: Manufacturing
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt REPORTS TO: General Manager
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Welder/Fabricator supports the manufacturing of specialty alloy melting equipment by welding and fabricating large copper, stainless steel, and carbon steel parts and assemblies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manufacturing:
- Reads blueprints, sketches, drawings, and follows procedures and specifications to determine the applicable welding and fabricating methods needed to produce a given product.
- Performs GMAW and GTAW welding processes to weld copper, stainless steel, carbon steel, and other metals.
- Ability to understand the operations of welding machines and conduct general maintenance of equipment.
- Lays out positions, aligns, and fits components together. Bolts, clamps, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding. Assembles parts by bolting and riveting.
- Refurbishes products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts. Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes.
- Connects and adjusts cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse.
- Manually or using semi-automated equipment guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
- Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Examines weld for bead size, quality, and other specifications as outlined in customer requirements.
- Cleans or degreases weld joint or work piece. Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
- Preheats work-piece with hand torch or heating equipment to process requirements.
- Positions and clamps work-pieces together or assembles them in jig or fixtures.
- Able to operate hand tools (grinders, chisels, saws), crane, fork truck, hand cart, and change associated gas bottles per all safety and manufactures guidelines.
- Maintains clean and orderly work area per 5S/Lean initiatives.
- Actively demonstrates compliance to ISO 9001 and AS9100, Quality System requirements in day-to-day operations.
- Pro-actively contributes to company’s overall mission and quality policy through teamwork, communication and organizational processes.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of applicable welding and fabricating experience.
- Must be a US citizen.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and verify in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to measure using inside and outside micrometers, calipers, tape measures and rules.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to implement long and short range goals for the organization, taking into consideration the mission of the organization.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence and memos.

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION
Ability to pass all required internal AWS, ASME, NADCAP weld qualifications.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Manual/Semi-automated welding machines, positioners, fixtures/jigs, grinders, bevellers, cold cut, chop, band saw. Plasma cutters, hydraulic press, forklift, cranes, weld smoke collectors, dust collectors, etc.
