We build restaurants with character. While each of our spots has its own personality, they’re grounded by the kindness of the people that work in them and the quality of the hospitality they provide.
We have high expectations for the quality of our services and work hard to achieve them. We also have high expectations for how we care for and communicate with one another, so it doesn’t feel like a stretch to call our teams “family.”
It’s been nearly fifteen years since we first opened our doors on a bustling corner in the West Village. Today we are Joseph Leonard, Jeffrey’s Grocery, Fairfax and Jolene, and Brooklyn-based Sailor.
We are looking for a thoughtful, creative, hard-working people-person to join Joseph Leonard as General Manager.
The position requires a demanding mix of organization, service smarts, and emotional IQ. It is the top leadership role in the restaurant. Candidates should be in possession of excellent communication skills, have a high degree of comfort speaking about food, wine and spirits, and be confident problem solvers.
The Day to Day:
– Active on the floor. General Managers are engaged in service for 70% of their hours, while the behind the scenes work makes up about 30% of one’s week.
– Engaged. Engaged with oour team. Engaged with guests. Engage with neighbors. Engaged with the community. One is always fostering relationships and looking for opportunities to create story-worthy experiences for diners.
– Communicating constantly – with your colleagues in the kitchen, on the dining room floor, in the office, and on the executive team, all in pursuit of a smoothly running restaurant filled with happy people.
– Preparing for and leading informative and inspirational pre-service meetings.
– Coaching the team with constructive, individually tailored feedback and delivering high fives when the job is done well.
– Recruiting and training future generations of well-intentioned and highly skilled teammates.
