Assembler Full Time

SCOPE:
Perform duties as part of a cellular manufacturing unit to perform any range of operations involved in the assembly of complete electro-mechanical or electro-optical coordinate measurement machines and associated accessories, ensuring compliance with established specifications, working within the limits of standard or accepted practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Work from production checklists, diagrams, schematics, drawings, kits, samples, specifications and other documentation. Determine appropriate schematics required and print copy. Assemble mechanical and/or optical and electronic components and subassemblies following specified sequence and in keeping with defined specifications and procedures to ensure finished assembly meets established operational and cosmetic requirements. Continuously inspect material for cosmetic defects and conduct any range of functional tests at prescribed intervals to ensure proper operation of various components during assembly. Request quality inspection at specified intervals and report significant deviations from standard to engineering for review, instruction and authorization. Identify and recognize nonconforming parts and request guidance as to when minor modification will allow utilization. Troubleshoot routine problems and make repairs or adjustments as directed. Notify quality control of failures during assembly or to determine remedy for unusual assembly issues. Perform routine assembly repairs and rework as required based on failure detected by test and diagnosed by others. Prepare documentation and annotate computerized records as required. Perform visual inspection of assembly and forward assembly and appropriate documentation for subsequent operations. Perform routine preventative maintenance to tools and equipment as required.

OTHER DUTIES MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Perform or assist with any departmental operations, as required or directed, to maintain work flow, operate within safe material handling limits to protect parts from damage and meet production schedules and requirements. Maintain safe work areas and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules. Attend and participate in a variety of meetings and task force groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements and policies. Recommend revisions to control documentation such as production check lists, operating procedures and policy manuals. Make and distribute authorized modifications as required. Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition. Perform other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Continuous lifting of very light weight materials, occasional lifting of lightweight materials and some lifting of average weight materials up to 60 lbs, some pushing & pulling and reaching, continuous sitting, occasional standing and some use of hazardous chemicals.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Hand and hand power tools, drill, voltmeter, weight gauge, heat gun, soldering iron, drill press, crimp machine, gage blocks, electronic gauging equipment, micrometers and oscilloscopes, loctite, acetone, epoxy hardener and resin, multimeter, electro-static discharge equipment, prescribed safety equipment, computer and common related peripherals
