Despaña is a Spanish specialty food retail store and Tapas Café. We are seeking an energetic and motivated candidate to work alongside a talented group of individuals representing the best of Spain. We value the candidates that are fast learners, reliable and trustworthy.
Within this setting, we are excited to bring on someone who will enjoy and thrive in an environment that is a combination of tapas café, grocery, and deli. The Café Associate position at Despaña Soho will be helping with service of food, wine and other beverages in the café as well as assisting with the deli and artisanal grocery. This position is ideal for someone who likes to enjoy and learn about specialty food (especially from Spain!) and will also love talking to our guests about our cuisine both on the shelves and in the kitchen. We work as a strong and friendly team to help our guests and each other throughout the day. Foodies a plus! Previous deli counter experience a plus as well.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Provide excellent customer service
• Expedite food orders
• Assist customers & ring up orders
• Maintain proper sanitation of the store following the NYC Health Guidelines
• Cut deli items (cheese & meats) and arrange charcuterie boards
• Make coffee & serve wines
Requirements:
• Willingness to learn about Spanish food and products
• Full-time hours & must be able to work weekends
• Ability to work independently and efficiently
• Good communication skills
• Multitask efficiency
• Bilingual Spanish (a plus)
• Certificate in Food Protection (a plus)
• Experience as a Cheesemonger or Barista (a plus)

Salary/Wage: Base Salary + TIPS – Salary starts at $17.00/hour
Status: Full-time 5 days/week – Weekend days are a must (the business is closed on Mondays). Staff must work at least one/two weekend days (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday)
Shift: Currently 10 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., or 2:00- 10:00 when the café opens in the future for evening tapas Thursday-Saturday

Schedule:
• 10:00 am to 6:00 pm (5 days)
• Weekends required
• Holidays required (business closes Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day)
• Flexibility in 2023 to switch to an evening shift if needed (2:00 pm – 10:00 pm)
