The Classroom Assistant assists in teaching a diverse population of children in an atmosphere of kindness that encourages active inquiry, fosters individual growth, and promotes respect for self and others. Additionally, the Classroom Assistant completes assigned responsibilities for instruction, planning, organization, activity implementation, evaluation, child care, and record maintenance.
Assists the classroom teacher with the implementation of the daily curriculum and activities.
Assists in the implementation of individual education programs for students and helps monitor their progress.
Works with the teacher in planning and implementing a program of instructions that adheres to the school’s philosophy, goals, and objectives.
Works with the teacher in making purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategies and maximize time on task.
Assists teachers in creating a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies.
Shares responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students in all areas of the school.
Presents subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions, and supervised role-playing methods.
Supports students with emotional or behavioral problems and helps them develop social skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent required
Certification and Licensing:

Experience:
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
Commitment to the University’s core values.
Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
Other Requirements:
Completion of criminal history checks and all background screening requirements, including Level 2 screening requirements in accordance with the requirements of Sections, 1012.485; and 1012.32; and 1012.487, Florida Statutes.
Compliance with requirements mandated through contracts with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Florida Department of Health Early Steps Programs, The Children’s Trust, and APPLE Accreditation as well as license requirements mandated by the Department of Children and Families.
Completion of the Department of Children and Families required training hours including CPR and First Aid Training within probationary period.
Completion of in-service hours required annually through APPLE Accreditation and the Department of Children and Families.
Completion of certification program of study to obtain the Florida Child Care Professional Credential is preferred.
