Urban Pathways serves as the first point of contact for New York City’s most vulnerable residents – people living on the streets, in subways, or in public areas. An innovative and data-driven leader, Urban Pathways is known for the effectiveness of our “housing first” approach. We engage individuals where they are in the cycle of homelessness. Through outreach and drop-in center services, transitional, long-term and permanent housing, and comprehensive support services, Urban Pathways helps more than 2,000 homeless men and women take control of their lives and find their way home. Urban Pathways is a 501(C)3 non-profit organization. We seek to hire talented and highly motivated individuals who will partner with us to provide excellent service to our clients.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Cook’s duties include:

Prepare and serve meals for the shift. Prepare and schedule meal planning for other shifts when other staffers are present.
Plan menus and run monthly client food committee.
Wash all dishes immediately following meals when present.
Prepare kitchen for other meals.
Advise Director of Operations of kitchen needs and order supplies for the kitchen including food and utensils, as needed.
Thoroughly clean entire work area after each meal including sink, stove and countertops.
Record meal count and submit monthly statistics to Director of Operations.
Attend staff meetings and training as scheduled.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Unexpired Food Handlers License required.
Minimum of two years experience planning, ordering, cooking and serving meals for groups of 30 or more preferred.
Completion of recent PPD Test prior to employment and annually thereafter required.
Sensitivity to the needs of the homeless.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to other team members.
