Job Summary

The Engineering Co-op allows Engineering students to gain valuable experience through tasks that are both technically challenging and educationally stimulating.  Working under the guidance of the Engineering Team, students will undertake providing technicial support and assist with the day-to-day needs of the airline. Our interns and co-op students will be exposed to a variety of aspects of Aircraft Engineering, including Structural Repair Design, Troubleshooting and Root-Cause Analysis, Technical Document interpretation as well as Technical Writing.

The Co-op students will be assigned to one of the Engineering teams – Liaison, Structures, Powerplant, Avionics or Maintenance Programs and need to commit to 3 non-consecutive semesters, consisting of a 12-week rotation per semester, throughout their academic career.

Co-op students will work a typical 40-hour per week schedule at Spirit’s Headquarters in Miramar, Florida.

Pay Rate: $24/hr

  • Maintain clear communication with Line Maintenance, Maintenance Control, Quality, other Engineering groups, and OEM or Vendors.
  • Prepares, creates, and reviews engineering documentation in accordance with NKS Engineering Standard Operating Procedures and processes.
  • Develop repair analysis/substantiation to justify the integrity of a repair using standard Engineering Methods.
  • Reviews documents including SRM, AMM, CMM, OEM Drawings, Service Letters, Service Bulletins, FARs, Airworthiness Directives, and other manufacturer issued publications.
  • Evaluate aircraft reliability and find solutions by developing tasks and/or processes to improve aircraft performance.
  • Initiate process improvement and optimization strategies to improve team efficiency.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change when circumstances dictate (e.g., emergencies change in workload, rush jobs or technical developments).

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 0-1 years experience
  • Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
  • Currently enrolled and in pursuit of undergraduate (sophomore or above) or graduate degree in Aeronautical/Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college/university.
  • Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and be able to maintain the minimum GPA.
  • Candidate must be capable of working in a team environment to creatively solve technical problems. Must be a self-motivated problem solver who demonstrates flexibility in acceptance of assignments and schedules.
  • Candidate must also have the ability to complete assignments with minimum supervision.
  • Good technical writing skills, oral communication and presentation skills are essential.
  • Great attention to detail and strong communication skills are necessary.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and basic PC skills.
