R40 is an innovative argentinian restaurant located in the heart of Long Island City, Queens. We feature an open kitchen equipped with a custom wood-fired grill, a seasonal backyard oasis and locally sourced food prepared with intention. At R40 we embrace our love for hospitality through community, culture, and creativity.
R40 is seeking a passionate head bartender for 4-5 shifts per week. There is some flexibility within the weekly schedule, but typically this has been a Wednesday prep/bar shift, Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday bar shift.
This position offers creative input on the beverage program by creating new cocktails for the menu regularly while working collaboratively with the manager to test and add new drinks. There are also opportunities for creating additional drink specials for holidays, happy hours and more.
We expect drink, batch and syrup/tonic recipes and notes to be updated and shared with the team in a timely fashion. This position requires conducting inventory with management with potential for ordering as well.
The right candidate should have at least 3 years experience bartending at a full-service, upscale restaurant, and at least 5 years experience in full-service (preferably upscale or Chef-led) restaurants.
Classic cocktail knowledge and experience required, as well as a solid foundation in craft beer and wine/wine service is also required. Strong food knowledge and understanding of upscale service/hospitality required (coursing, resetting, etc). We want someone who exudes professionalism and genuine hospitality, stays calm and organized under pressure, leads by example, thrives in a team environment and works neatly with attention to detail.
Duties & Essential Functions
- Provide exceptional service to every customer.
- Previous NYC hospitality experience preferred (1-2 years).
- Accurately take and enter orders and communicate flow with management and chefs.
- Knowledge of POS (point of sales) systems. Toast preferred.
- Good understanding of wine, beer, classic cocktails.
- Must be able to lift heavy boxes (at least 50 lbs).
- Ability to walk, stand, and bend for extended periods of time over multiple floors.
- Occasional kneeling, bending, crouching, and climbing is required.
- Available to work weekends, nights, and holidays as the business dictates.
- Must be of legal age according to NY State regulations to serve alcohol (18 years).
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
- Food safety knowledge.
