General Description (Purpose and Function):

The Postdoctoral Associate supports research activities at the University, under the supervision of a faculty member, in order to advance their knowledge and/or be documented by scientific publications.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Works and collaborates on studies related to field of study.
• Ensures the design, development, execution and implementation of scientific research and/or development in collaboration with a research team. • Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products.
Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.
Contributes to scientific literature and conferences, when appropriate.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have excellent communication skills, oral and written.
Must be detail oriented.
Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):
Doctoral degree or equivalent in their specialty.

 

Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements):
No work experience is required.

 

Duties related to the College of Arts & Sciences:
The Galetti Lab is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate position to work on fruit-frugivore interaction and the effects of defaunation on ecological and evolutionary consequences for plants in South Florida and Caribbean ecosystems. Research in the Galetti’s Lab. addresses fundamental problems in ecology and conservation using multiple complementary approaches. A particular area of interest is to understand how seed dispersers influence plant demography and genetic diversity, and how this translates into species resilience. We are looking for a curious, creative, collaborative, and ambitious scientist with broad interests, a broad skill set, and lateral-thinking ability to join our group at the University of Miami. The candidate has to provide experience with molecular analyses of plants, network analyses, niche modeling, and an excellent understanding of the natural history of tropical ecosystems. Experience working remotely in challenging field conditions. This appointment is for one year initially, with the possibility of renewal up to two years, based on satisfactory performance and funding.
