RESEARCH SPECIALIST I Full Time

The individual in this role would primarily support the work of the Research Specialists and Staff Scientists in the Molecular Genomics Core. Attention to aseptic technique and accurate pipetting are critical. The typical duties will include but are not limited to:

Initial DNA/RNA sample QC evaluation on the Agilent TapeStation or Agilent BioAnalyzer instruments. This may require sample normalization, post-run peak analysis, and Excel reporting.
Initial DNA/RNA sample quantitation on the Thermo NanoDrop spectrophotometer or the Thermo Qubit Fluorometer and reporting in an Excel table.
Initial sample preparation including nucleic acid normalization and plate preparation
DNA fragmentation on the Covaris M220 and ME220 sonicator in support of DNA library preparation
Sequencing library QC evaluation and quantitation (TapeStation, Qubit, etc.)
Quantitative PCR plate setup for DNA library quantitation.
Sample storage and inventory support, including updating storage database and assisting with sample receipt and return
Sequencing and microarray kit inventory support, which may include tallying reagents and updating database
Preparation of shipments to external vendors, which may include completing submission forms, weighing packages, and preparing shipping labels
Other general lab support duties, which may include assistance with defrosting freezers, unpacking and stowing lab shipments, etc.
Experience and education required:

Minimum high school diploma, AA/AS degree preferred, or a BA/BS (desired). Minimum of two years in a science related field with High School diploma. or One year of laboratory experience with AA/AS degree. No experience required with BS/BA degree. Core specific licensure and/or certifications required. Annual Human Subjects Training, i.e. CITI is required.
A desire to learn new techniques, and a degree of curiosity and enthusiasm for scientific inquiry.
Previous basic laboratory experience is preferred, but not required. Training will be provided.
Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills are required.
Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
