Student LGBTQA Assistant Temporary

The Office of Social Justice and Inclusion is currently seeking a Student LGBTQA Assistant to join their team of professionals. Duties to include:

Assist the team in the developing and implementing of programs & services for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning and ally (LGBTQA) student population at FIU.
Work under the umbrella of the Office of Social Justice and Inclusion, to develop, implement and evaluate LGBTQA programs and services for both campuses.
Provide resources and programming for LGBTQA people and allies on and off campus.
Oversee the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of our Programs on Demand workshops on Gender Pronoun Use, Affirming and Supporting LGBTQIA+ People, and others.
Assist with various event committees and special committees as needed.
Collaborate on programs (i.e. those programmed in conjunction with student affairs offices) such as the Pulse Vigil, Pride Badge Program, Queer Leaders Program, and Mentorship Program.
Present educational programs including The Safe Zone Program, programs inclusive of panels and workshops for students, staff and classroom groups and That’s So Queer live discussion series over Instagram.
Collaborate with student and Miami area organizations in the creation of events and to facilitate student ownership of events
Provide advisement, information, referral and advocacy to/for LGBTQA students
Collaborate with faculty, staff and students on both campuses and online over Zoom and Teams
Serve as support for student groups (e.g., Pride Student Union, OUT and About, Gender and Straight Alliance, etc.)
Contribute and assist with the weekly LGBTQA e-Newsletter via MailChimp
Manage social media and other outreach accounts including: Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, webpage and LGBTQA email address.
Develop monthly reports, updates and semesterly program reports.
Support office development by the Office of Social Justice and Inclusion through committee work.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should possess a strong passion for working with the LGBTQA population on campus and in the greater Miami Community as well as a passion for working with students at the intersections of other marginalized identities and an interest in learning about and contributing creatively to student development and retention efforts. Applicants should have experience with event planning and coordination, working with social media, and have some working knowledge and experience with LGBTQA people.

At least 3 semesters of FIU work experience or related experience outside the University with satisfactory or higher from prior student appointment.
Requires a letter of recommendation from one prior supervisor.
Requires prior completion of FIU Service Excellence training or completion within first 30 days.
Ability to work in a team setting.
Advanced proficiency of Microsoft Office Suites.
Ability to take direction and work independently as needed.
Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with highly sensitive information.
Knowledge of PC operations and specialized software programs, such as PantherSoft and Salesforce.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally, and in writing.
Possess a high sense of responsibility and customer service skills.
Ability to solve problems independently.
Organizational and time-management skills.

Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters.
During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.
Upon graduating, student employment must end.

Scheduled bsed on student’s class schedule and departmental needs.
