POSITION SUMMARY:
This position inspects all in-coming as well as outgoing cargo and/or equipment (i.e. container, trailer, and/or refrigerated units, etc.) and enters the necessary information into the hand-held computers. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Required
Minimum one (1) year experience working as a receiving clerk in an industrial environment such as warehouse or marine terminal receiving cargo and/or vehicles.
Must possess basic computer skills
Must be able to accurately process alpha/numeric information.
Must be able to read and speak English at a Basic level.
Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, as needed
Ability to work with limited supervision and strong initiative
Organizational and time management skills
Ability to think logically, make sound decisions, and follow procedures and instructions
Must be detail oriented
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, vendors and fellow employees.
Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card within 30 days of employment.
Preferred
Experience handling hazardous cargo documentation
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary
Performs a visual inspection of the truck and equipment for obvious mechanical and structural deficiencies or damages. This includes, but not limited to tail lights, indicator lights, tires, mud flaps, reflectors validity of license plate currency of annual highway inspections stickers, and any obvious tears or rips in the container to ensure that it is roadworthy.
Inspects the interior of empty containers; the doors of the containers are opened by the driver.
Records discrepancies and/or damages on the hand-held computer or at the computer station.
Checks the TIR release from the driver for accuracy and signs the release. This job function includes examination of the scale receipt, bookings, equipment numbers, chassis numbers, reflectors, and seals on outgoing or loaded containers.
Makes minor mechanical repairs such as replace broken tail lights and crank handles for landing gear, affix tape over small tears, install necessary placards, remove or spray over unnecessary placards, and replace expired license plates.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Secondary
Perform miscellaneous office duties such as preparing documentation, stuff interoffice envelopes with documents containing the daily transactions for the different division at the main office.
Carries boxes of container seals to replenish supply, as needed.
Must maintain a clean work area, free of debris or safety hazards.
Additional duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The employee is continuously required to walk, stand, talk, hear, grasp, use repetitive foot motion and eye hand coordination.
The employee must continuously use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
The employee is frequently required to bend forward, twist, reach forward, overhead reach, use finger dexterity and eye-hand-foot coordination.
The employee is frequently required to lift, carry up to 5 pounds and pull up to 50 pounds.
The employee is occasionally required to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, crawl, pinch, squat and use repetitive wrist motion.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receives direction from the TIR Header. Does not exercise supervision over any position.

CONDITIONS:
Work is performed primarily outdoors; exposed to changing weather (temperature & humidity) and outdoor environments, during day and night shifts.
The employee continuously works near moving trucks.
The employee is continuously exposed to dust, fumes, and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to noisy.
