To support the seamless running of the wine department, providing a highly efficient and effective service, educating, and recommending customers on wine choices and pairing, ensuring standards are maintained and customer needs are anticipated.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

To ensure that all customers receive the best possible service and care.
To have thorough knowledge of the wine menu.
To be confident in making recommendations and wine pairing.
To maximize sales opportunities and profitability through attentive service.
To become a professional, valued member of the team with a flexible approach to improving customer experience.
To arrive at work for a scheduled shifts and be punctual, always following company absence and lateness procedures if unable to do so.
To ensure that all wine stock levels are maintained, and correct ordering procedures are carried out.
To ensure the wine store is always kept clean and tidy.
To monitor standards and supply of all appropriate equipment, ensuring management team are aware of any needs.
To ensure all wine lists are current and up to date.
To treat company property with due care and attention.
To attend meetings / training sessions as required by the management team.
To be fully aware of current legislation regarding hygiene, licensing laws, weights, and measures as they apply to the restaurant.
To adhere to and maintain cleaning checklists.
To lead training for FOH staff when needed.
To follow up on corked wines/credits and maintain up to date record of items.
To be aware of restaurant / company skills and standards, ensuring these are followed.
To implement wine team order of service.
To be responsive to any guest’s request.
To inform managers of any complaints / comments / perceived issues.
To support and be fully aware of the POS system, ensuring no food or beverage is issued without registration on POS.
Ensure each shift is reviewed and team handovers / briefings are carried out.
Work with Head Sommelier to create and maintain the training schedule for the wine team.
To track all incentive programs/contests.
To effectively run the department in the absence of the Head Sommelier.
To assist in constructing SOP and maintaining Wine Team SOP binder.
To construct/organize training schedules for the wine team and ensure that all members are aware of scheduled trainings.
A courteous and professional service is provided at all times.
Company grooming and uniform standards are maintained consistently.
Clear understanding of guest expectations.
Positive attitude toward all guests and coworkers.
Being the pioneer and educator of wine in the US.
Thorough knowledge of menu, wine list and Zuma products.
The wine cellar is clean and well stocked at all times.
Wine related equipment to be stocked and maintained.
Creation of buttons on POS and linkage to FnB.
Alerting Head Sommelier of price discrepancies on invoicing.
Ordering, when necessary. Alerting Head Sommelier as to any shortages/vintage changes.
Fully competent in POS and FnB Shop (ordering, receiving, invoices).
Understands and implements company skills and standards.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma
CMS level or WSET level is required.
Good communication and organizational skills.
Ability to handle stressful situations and be able to prevent and/or handle emergency situations.
A cheerful, positive attitude when working with a variety of people, and be able to work well under pressure.
Responsible, neat, and clean in appearance.
Strong communication skills with supervisors and team members.
Must be able to read, write and speak English.
